[reutee’s telegrams.] LONDON, January 17, The Thames Race. Owing to the large quantity of floating ice on the Thames the race between Hanlan and Laycock could not take place to-day. The Premier. The Hon. W. E. Gladstone has recovered from the cold from which he was recently suffering. Ritualistic. The Rev. Q. P. Dale and the Rev. Ewright, Ritualistic clergymen, who were imprisoned for contempt of orders of the Court of Arches, have been discharged from custody’ it having been found that writs under which they were arrested were defective. Central AsiaFurther news to hand from Central Asia states that Turcomans recently made an unsuccessful sortie from Gesk Tapebling, and were heavily repulsed by the Russians, who then stormed the outworks. The conflict was most sanguinary, and resulted in a heavy loss to both sides. CONSTANTINOPLE, January 17. Turkish Affairs* The Porte has sent a Circular Note to its representatives abroad, requesting them to propose to the Powers that the latter should send delegates to a Conference at Htambonl to negotiate for the settlement of the Greek frontier question. The Porte desires that a conference should be held in lieu of arbitration as proposed by the Powers.
