SPECIAL PARTNERSHIPS ACT.
TO THB BSITOB OF THB FBBSB. Sib, —I observe in your issue of to day that Mr Bobert Allan, the President of the Industrial Association, at a meeting of the committee of that body held last evening, called special attention to the provisions of the Special Partnerships Act, and its advantages, and stated that he thought the Act was not generally known, as if so its provisions would be taken advantage of. As to this I may remark in limine, that in faofc there is no Special Partnerships Act at all, but the law referred to (I presume) by Mr Allan is to be found in sections 59 et seq. of The Mercantile Law Act of last session. This portion of the Mercantile Law Act is the result of the labors of the Statute Revision Commission towards the consolidation of our statutes, and is merely a reprint of the Special Partnerships Act, 1858, which until last session was in force. The Special Partnerships Act, 1858, was included by me in my book on the "Law of New Zealand relating to Mining," published in August, 1869, a copy of which book I beg your acceptance herewith. As this latter Aot has been in force for the last twenty-two years until last session, when it was repealed and re-enacted as above, its provisions should unquestionably be known by this time, and there is therefore certainly no novel feature in legislation calling for Mr Allan's remarks. Yours, &c, Michael Habt. Sydenham, 13th January, 1881.
