OHRISTCHTTBOH. Thttbsday, January 13. [Beforo It. Weatonra and J. E. Parker, Eaqs., J.P.'sJ Civil Cases. —Williams y Morris, £8 for painting a merry-go-round, materials supplied, brushes, &o. Mr Gresson for defendant, who refused to pay on the ground that the charge was excessive and the work had baen badly done. The brushes claimed for had been lent, and plaintiff oould have them any time, judgment for plaintiff for £6 15a 9d. Columbus v Poole, elaim £2 183 9d for flounders supplied to defendant, who had the refreshment booth at the Anniversary Day sports ground. He had taken the fish and given a receipt for them, but afterwards said they were not fit for food and refused to pay for them. The Bench, deducting a charge of 5s for cleaning the fish, gave judgment for plaintiff with costs. Haskins v Go]ding, £l4 Is Id, rent due for a cottage. Defendant had taken the place for a term, left before the term had expired, and repudiated the claim of the landlord, although he had sublet and received rent for some time. Plaintiff produoed papers proving the agreement, and got judgment for full amount with costs. Hobday v Mrs Collier, £4 15s; a judgment summons. Plaintiff informed the Bench that defendant positively refused to pay unless compelled. Ordered to pay the amount in fourteen days.

Porker, Esqs., J.P.'s.] DBtrNKKNNEaa.—Bobert Dunn, who was stated to be suffering from delirium tremens, was sent to Lyttelton Gaol for eight days for medical treatment. Pat Ryan, the man who yesterday said whiskey had " leaned" on him, was now brought up for being drunk and exponing himself indecently last night in a thoroughfare. There were eight previous convictions recorded against prisoner. He pleaded hard for another ohance,and theßenoh sentenced him to seven days' imprisonment with bard labor, without the option of a fine. Henry Lewis was fined 10s, and cab hire Is 6d. For first offence two men were fined each si>. Doa Stealing.—Edward Hampton, on remand from Tuesday, was again brought up for stealing a Bull-terrier dog, valued at two guineas, the property of Wm. Patterson. The owner of the dog identified it. Constable Bouse, stationed at Bakaia, deposed to having found the dog in the possession of prisoner at a place near Bakaia ; he said the dog strayed to his place there. Prisoner now said the dog followed one of his own while he was in Christohuroh. He had made enquiries to find the owner without success. The polioe, to a certain extent, corroborated the statement of the prisoner. Mr Wadey, who happened to be in Court, came forward and stated that the dog had been hanging about his place for some time a few weeks since. The Bench thought that, though the prisoner had done a very stupid thing in taking the dog away from town with him, there had boen no felonious intent. Case dismissed. Assault. —A oase of this nature against H. J. Wood was, on application of the prosecutrix, allowed to bo withdrawn. Bathing in thb Avon.—Albert Bunge appeared to answer an information that he had bean found bathing at the old bathingground, Hagley Park, on the 11th of January, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. He had a certain dress on, viz., trunks, and the case was brought to test the legality of the practice, which prevails to some extent. The Bench declined to deal with the matter at all, and adjourned the oase till Wednesday next for the presence of a Resident Magistrate.
