[eetitee’s telighams.] MELBOURNE, January 10. Sailed—Tararua, for the Bluff, on Saturday. Telegram ChargesLetters appear in the “ Argus ” drawing attention to the disagreement which exists between the New Zealand and NewSouth Wales Governments regarding the tariff for telegraphic messages between. Australia and New Zealand. Negotiations for a reduction of the tariff were proceeding for some time, but finally failed. The New Zealand Government has, however, reduced the rate on messages from Now Zealand, but the ebarges from Australia remain at the original rate. The “ Argus ” referring to the communication, supports the proposal, which its correspondents make, that the matter in dispute between the two Governments should be referred to the intercolonial conference, which meets at Sydney on the 13 th inst. Wool Prizes. The awards to the wool exhibits at Exhibition were announced to-day. New Zealand exhibitors take the following prizes in merinos:—Gollon, e£ Mangotaratu, second. Scoured merino—Young and Dalgety, of Omarama, first. Long scoured—Williams, of Mangatutn, second. Long unwashed—Tanner, of Riverslea, second; Blair, of Wanganui, third. Wool PrizeSir Samuel Wilson takes the champion prize for wool at the Exhibition. Grain Show. The show of grain and agricultural produce at the Exhibition opens oh the 23rd February. MELBOURNE, January 11. At the Corio Bay Regatta the Victoria yacht Janet was first, with Auckland yacht Taniwha second. London Ship Wrecked. The ship Hereford, hound from London to this port, has become a total wreck on Cape Patten (Gape Paterson on the Victorian Coast). All lives have been saved. SYDNEY, January 10, Our Dark Brothers. The brig Mavis has arrived here from the Solomon group, and reports that the captain and crew of the Sydney schooner Zephyr have been massacred, and the vessel plundered and burnt. ADELAIDE, January 10. In LuckThe Chimborazo was successfully floated this morning without injury, and has proceeded to Melbourne. BRISBANE, January 10. Leichardt. Mr Skuthorpo telegraphs from Blackall that he has discovered the grave of Classau, and has also obtained evidence as to the fate of Leichardt, the explorer. Another Slaughter. A junk has arrived at Cooktown and reports that the crew of the schooner Prosperity, consisting of nine Chinese, have been slaughtered by the natives of the Lucade Islands, near New Guinea. The captain of the schooner succeeded in escaping. A Useful MapThe Queensland Government have issued a map showing the routes of the proposed trans-continental railway to the Gulf of Carpentaria and the grand trunk line of South Australia from Roma, in this colony.
