WANDERERS V. ASSOCIATION. This match was commenced on New Year's Day, but the original teams were altered considerably in consequence of the holidays. The Association side, in fact, was half represented by Wanderers, who were pressed in to fill up the ranks. The Wanderers went first to the wicket, and, chiefly by the aid of Messrs Ashby, E. J. Ootterill and W. P. Reeves, put together 224 before the last wicket fell. D. Ashby, after he settled down, played in his old form, and hit with his usual brilliancy, and it was a pleasure to see him make a good score. He gave a couple of chances. E. J. Ootterill played well for his 29, as also did W. P. Beeves for his 26. The fielding was not the most brilliant, nor was the bowling difficult. The Association were not so fortunate as their opponents, as at the fall of the last wicket only 119 appeared on the board, of which B. B. Milton made 26 in good style. Messrs Hartland and Watson played well for 23 each, the latter hitting a ball from Ootterill into his wioket.
A follow on was necessary, but with very little better result, the total reaching only 127, to whioh Fowke contributed a steadily played 46. E. J. Boss, after escaping at short leg, continued his prosperous oareer until he had put together 28. W. Frith 21, and Hartland 18 were the other chief contributors. With 24 to get, D. Ashby and A. Bedmayne essayed the task, whioh they accomplished without the loss of the wioket. The following ia the score :
