OXFORD. These sports, usually held next the Homan Catholic Church, on Mr Johnstone’s land, were very well patronised. The only race which did not come off was the bullock race, and the others resulted as follows : Boys’ Race (under fifteen), a quarter of a mile. First prize, 10s; second, ss. Jas. Lees and Wm. Baan a dead heat. Two others competed, and the winners divided. Girls’ Race (under twelve), 100 yards. First prize, 5s ; 2nd, 2a 6d. Ellen Marsh, 1 j Sarah Moucsey, 2. The sports were held in a paddock near the railway station, the arrangements being very perfect, and the various items on the programme well contested.
