MAIL NOTICES.
Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary alterations) as under: — FRIDAY, JANUARY 7. For Cape Town (for speciallyiaddressed letters only), per Ocean Ranger, at 1.40 p.m.; late fee letters, at 2 p.m. SATURDAY, JANUARY 8. For Northern Ports, per Hawea, at 7.30 p.m. Guard’s van must not be used for this mail. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 12. For the United Kingdom, via Brindisi (for specially addressed correspondence only), Point de Galle, India, China, Japan, the East, Aden, Mauritius, Natal, Capo of Good Hope, Suez, the Mediterranean Ports, Australian Colonies, &0., per express train, to connect with s.s. Arawata, at Bluff, as follows : Ordinary letters at 7 a.ra.; books and newspapers at 6 a.m.; registered letters at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January Hth ; money orders at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11th. late fee letters may be posted in the travelling Post Office van attached to the express train on Wednesday, January 12th. Note. —The Brindisi rate of postage for the United Kingdom is Sd per half-ounce. Residents in Sydenham are requested to get their letters addressed to the Borough. There is a serious delay in delivering correspondence meant for Sydenham if addressed to Christchurch. Three new post offices have been opened from Ist January, 1881. I. Cracroft, at Sir Cracroft Wilson’s station, Rangitata. Mails will clo-e at Christchurch each Wednesday and Saturday at 7.30 a.m. 2. Newland, Ashburton. Mails will close at Christchurch each Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30 a.m. 3. North Loburn, Ashley. Mails will close at Christchurch each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 6 a.m. SYDNEY J.
