CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

A meeting of the Board of Governors of the Canterbury College was held yesterday afternoon. Present—Mr W. Montgomery (in the chair), the Rev. Charles Fraser, Dr. Turnbull, Measrs J. N. Tosswill, F. de O. Malet, J. Culborne Vcel, J. Inglis, and E. O. J. Stevens.

The Chairman explained that this was a »peoial meeting called for the purpose of considering resolutions of which notioe had been given. He might also state that he had written to Sir JuHub Vogel and Mr Kennaway re the appointment of a master for the School of Arts about to be established, and ho had received a communication from Mr Kennaway giving the name of the new matter of the High School, namely, Mr Hobden, of Cambridge.

A motion, given notice of by Mr Fereday, lapsed, owing to the absence of that gentleman.

Ihe Museum committee reported as follows : The committee recommends the Board to r.ccept the tender of England and Martin, for additions to the Museum, including removal and re-erection of the Maori House, for the sum of £1536. That a credit be established in London in favor of Mr Kennaway for £175, to cover cost of passage money of tbe Masters of the School of Art. to pay expenses of advertising, and for the purchase of apparatus for the tchool. The Board decided to transmit to Mr Kennaway a sum of money for defraying the expenses of Mr Hobden from Ergland to the Colony. In re the School of Agriculture, the Board went into committee to consider the reports of the College and Agricultural School Committees on the same.

Before going into committee, a discussion took place on a suggestion by Mr Inglis, to defer euch important matters as those involved till a larger attendance of members could be secured, but it was ultimately decided to proceed. On resuming, the following resolutions were reported as adopted by tho committee, and parsed by the Board:— The committee having carefully considered the letters of the director of the School of Agriculture, dated the 13th and 20th December, recommends that notice be given to Mr Uarrington that his services will not be required after the 31st March, IPBI ; that an instructor in chemistry be engaged at a salary not exceeding £3OO ; and that the School of Agriculture committee be authorised to call for applications ; that the Board be recommended to determine the professor of biology's engagement, giving him twelve months' notice, and paying at the end of that time a sum of £3OO, in accordance with the conditions under which he was engaged, and that the said £3OO be charged against the School of Agriculture ; that an instructor in natural history and cognate subjects, to reside at the school, be engaged at a salary not exceeding £3OO ; and that the School of Agriculture committee be authorised to call for applitions. The committee recommends that the professor of biology be paid the following fees for the School of Agriculture, viz . at the rate of £1 per student per annnm for the time he has lectured, one day per week, and at the rate of £2 per student per annum for lectures given two days per week. The following recommendations of the College committee was also approved : The committee recommends the Board to authorise the committee to advertise for two junior masters for the Boys' High School, at the salary of £3OO and £2OO respectively. The Board then adjourned.
