SYDENHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tho ordinary meeting of the above Council was held at the Council Chambers last evening (January 3rd) at seven o’clock. Present—His Worship tho Mayor and all the Councillors except Or. Charters. An application for a slaughtering license from Mr Boag was referred to the sanitary committee. The Borough Inspector having reported that several buildings were being erected in Sydenham without tho usual building licenses having been applied for, it was resolved that that officer be instructed to recover the fees. The works committee reported that the Council’s conditions for granting railway sidings across the streets of the borough had been revised, and a copy of tho same forwarded to the Council’s solicitors to embody them, and any amendments
thereon they may deem necessary in a deed of agreement with the person* to whom sidings may be granted. That Mr Adcock’s claim for compensation for an accident to his cab in Stevens street had been considered, and the committee could not recommend payment of the same. That Mr Davidson’s sale plan of his property be not approved unless the streets be made a full chain in width. The report was adopted. A letter from Mr Davidson, proposing two further plans for the subdivision of the property, was read, and his first proposition, which was substantially the same as asked by the works committee, was agreed to, subject to a plan of the same being furnished for the guidance of the works committee. The finance committee reported the fortnight’s receipts to be £227 Is 2d, expenditure £125 Os 9d, and the present credit balance at the Bank, £lO3l 10s lid. The report was approved. It was agreed that a deputation, consisting of Or s. White, Hall, Pavitt and the Mayor, wait upon the Premier re the erection of the promised footbridge across the rail way between Waltham road and Colombo street. The town clerk was appointed Registrar of Dags for the borough, and the Borough Council Chambers was appointed the office for such registration. Cr. Hail moved, and Or, Joyce seconded, “ That the town clerk’s salary be increased from £156 to £2OO per annum.” After considerable discussion, the motion was carried by 6to 2. The Council then adjourned.
