ENGLISH &_ FOREIGN. [reutee's telegrams.] LONDON, December 30. Money. Consols are unchanged at 100£. New Zealand securities remain at last quotations. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the ~Ba.uk of England is £12,875,000. The markets for Australian and New Zealand produce are unchanged. December 31. Precautionary. Owing to the excitement which is prevailing in Dnblin in consequence of tho trial of the Land Leaguers, extra military preparations are being made in tho city for the preservation of order. Severe Weather. Very heavy snow storms have fallen in England during tho past few days, and in many districts serious floods have resulted on the breaking up of the frost. Considerable loss of property has occurred, and owing to the extreme cold much distress has been experienced by the poorer classes. LONDON, January 1. Revenue. The revenue returns for the December quarter show a million increase. Prohibitory. The land meetings which were to be held in Ireland on Saturday and Sunday have been prohibited. A flying column is traversing the country to prevent any attempt that may be made at night drilling. Cape Hews. The latest intelligence to hand from | the Cape states that the Boors have abandoned Utrecht. The garrisons at , Standeston and Walkestroom are strongly entrenched, and well supplied. Largo bodies of troops are marching to th» the front. Fiji. Fijian chiefs are making a request that Rotumah be annexed to Fiji. Revenue. The British revenue returns for the last quarter show an increase of £1,000,000, compared with the corresponding period of last year. Irish AffairsAll the land meetings in Ireland on Saturday and Sunday have been prohibited, and a flying column is traversing the country to prevent night drilling by -leaguers. PolynesiaInformation has been received at the Colonial Office that the chiefs of Rotumah have made a request to the Governor of Fiji that the island should be annexed by the British to Fiji. CONSTANTINOPLE, January 1. The Greek Question. The Porte is engaged in massing 100,000 troops on the Greek frontier, in preparation for probable hostilities. SUEZ, December 30. Frozen Meat. The steamer Protos, with a cargo of meat, has arrived here homeward bound from Melbourne. CAPETOWN, December 31. The Cape Boers. A report comes to hand ;o-day from j the Transvaal that the Bofrs have fol- 1 lowed up their recent successes by occupying Pretoria, the capital town. The rumor, however, requires confirmation. NEW YORK, December 31. A Wintry Aspect. Intense cold continue! to be experienced throughout the Statef, and heavy saow storms have fallen in many parts.
