MAIL NOTICES.
Mails close at the Chief Post Office for the following places (subject to the necessary alterations) as under TUESDAY, DECEMBEE 28. For Otago and Australian Colonies, via the Bluff, per Ringarooma, at 4 20 p.m. ; late fee letters at 4.35 p.m.; guard’s van, 5.25 p.m. train. For Northern Ports, per Hawea, at 7.30 p.m. : guard’s van, 8.30 p.m. train. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 31. For the United Kingdom, Continents of Europe and America, West Indies, Sandwich Islands, and Northern Ports of New Zealand, &c., per Wanaka, as follows—-Money orders and registered letters, at 5 p.m. ; books and newspapers, at 9 p.m.; ordinary letters at 10 p.m. A supplementary mail will be closed at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Ist January, 1881. Late fee letters may be posted in the guard’s van attached to the 8,30 p.m. train on Saturday, Ist January. On Saturday, Ist January (Now Tear’s Day), all branches of the Post Office will ba closed. The Sydenham Post Office is now open. Letters for Christchurch, Sydenham, and the suburban letter carriers’ deliveries are charged at town rate of postage —that is, one penny the half ounce. Residents in Sydenham are requested to get their letters addressed to the Borough. There is a serious delay in delivering correspondence meant for Sydenham if addressed to Christchurch. SYDNEY J.
