OXFORD HORTICULTURAL AND POULTRY ASSOCIATION.
The first exhibition of the above association was held in the West Oxford Oddfellows’ Hall on Tuesday, December 21st, and was a decided success, the town being filled to overflowing. The hall was prettily decorated with ferns and shrubs from tho neighboring bush. Amongst the exhibits by lady amateurs, those of Mias Heston, Mesdames McKenzie, G. A. White, Mardon, Oomyns, Haider, and Marsh, deserve special notice. The hand and table bouquets of Miss Beaton was most elegantly arranged, but were disqualified through the appearance of the exhibitor’s name on them. Tho important office of judge of the fruit and flowers was kindly filled by Mr Turner, of Christchurch, and the following wero the prize-takers : open class. Geraniums, double—Mrs McKenzie Geraniums, single—Mrs G. A. White AMA.TEUB CLASS. Fnschia —Mrs J. Marsh Geraniums, double—Mrs Q. A. White Cactus —Mrs Lough Boses, best twelve out blooms —Mrs G. A. White Boses, best six out blooms—Mrs McKenzie Best Stand of Flowers —Mrs McKenzie; highly commended, Mrs Eili'tt Beat Pot Plants—Mrs W. Comyns Petunia?— Mrs ElliottJCextra prize also) Collection of Sweet Williams—Mrs Stevenson FBTJIT. Gooseberries —Ist prize, Mrs Under Strawberries—lst prize, Mrs Elliott Raspberries—lst prize. Mrs Elliott Esd Currants—lst prize, Mrs Elliott _ White Currants—lst prize, Mrs Soulaira Ehubarb—lst prize, Mrs McKenzie VEGETABLES. Turnips, Ist prize, Mrs G. A. White Cabbages, Ist prize, Mrs Stevenson Onions, Ist prize, Mrs Archer; 2nd, Mrs Elliott Peas, Ist prize, Mrs Elliott lettuce, Ist prize, Mrs Archer Potatoes, Ist prize, Mrs W. O. Jones To Mr McKenzie was deservedly awarded a special prize for his fiuo collection of ferns. In tho way of poultry, there were only three exhibits, Mr Stevenson carrying off tha first prize for some very fine Bramahs. The prize for butter was taken by Mrs Carson, and that of Mesdames McGrath and Milligan was highly commended. Mr Schofield received the first prize for hams. A Ohristohuroh band contributed greatly to the day’s amusements. Tho association propose holding the second ahow in tho beginning of March.
