POLICE COURT.

CHBISTOHUBOH. Thubsday, Dbcembee 23. [Before F. J. Kimball, J. P. Jameson, and J. E. Brown, Esqre., J.P.'s.j Dbtthkenness. —For a first offence, a man was fined Ss, and cabhire Is. John Baxter, who had been taken out of a railway carriage while in a frantic state from drink, was remanded to Lyttelton gaol for eight days for medical treatment.

Fowi Stbaxing.— John Buohanan, the man named " Jack," who was wanted very maoh at a former hearing of a case against two men who had in their possession and sold three fowls stolen from John Grew on November 30th last, and got each three months' imprisonment for the offence, was brought up on remand from Akaroa, where he had been arrested. Taddoo Frigo deposed that he taw acoused coming out of Mr Crew's fowl house at about four o'clock of the day named with several fowls in his arms, which he took into a paddock, where he met a mate. Witness saw them go away from there, one of them with a bag on his back. Afterwards he law acoused and Hannam, one of the men who were sentenced at the B.M. Court, near Morton's and at the City Hotel. The prisoner cross-examined the witness in a very business-like manner, but failed to shake the evidence he had given. On the contrary, several other points were brought out which confirmed it. The prisoner then made a long speeoh of a rambling nature. The police having described him as one of the worst characters about town, he was sentenced to three months' imprisonment with hard labor.
