A letter was read from the Government stating that they would not feel justified in granting a gratuity to Captain Cargill, of the Anstralia, ::or bringing the Ligurian bees to the colony. They felt that they could not do so, because the bees were not ordered by the Government, but by an irresponsible society, Mr Carrick moved—“ That a gratuity of £25 be presented by the society to Captain Cargill, in recognition of hie services in introducing the Ligurian bees.” Mr Oogan seconded the motion, which was agreed to. A letter was read from Mr Creighton with reference to the shipment of a second lot of three colonies of Ligurian bees, which the secretary stated bad arrived fairly well.
