KAIAPOI ISLAND SOUTH.
A meeting of the residents of Kaiapoi Island South and the district of the North road, adjoining Chaney’s Corner, took place on Friday evening last, the 17lh of December, at the Courtenay Arms, White’s Bridge. It was unanimously agreed—l. “ That the attention of the Government be drawn to the largely signed petition sent to them through the Hon. C. C. Bowen last June, to which there has been no reply further than an acknowledgment of reception.” 2, “That the Government be requested to again take into consideration the large amount of grain and potatoes, amounting to 66,361 bushels grain, 1498 tons potatoes, which, had there been a grain shed at Chaney’s Corner, would have been delivered there this season.” 3, “ That this meeting respectfully.lays before the Govern ment that this large amount of potatoes would be more than doubled were _ the grain shed in existence.” 4. “That this meeting respectfully lays before the Government the fact that many of the inhabitants of Kaiapoi Island South are so situated with regard to the stations on the North Line that they have to cart between seven and eight miles to the Styx ” 5. “ That this meeting wishes to draw the attention of the Government to the fact that so far as the residents of Kaiapoi Island South and Chaney’s Corner are concerned, that were Belfast a station, it being so far off the main road, the Styx is within a more convenient distance.”
