In seeking a seat on the Board I might inform you that I am well acquainted with most parts of the Waimakariri River, and daring my eighteen years’ residence here have frequently seen it in fl 3od and witnessed its devastating effects. Being a large ratepayer in the ward it follows that I am equally interested with yourselves in preventing the river making further encroachments, and should yon elect mg I will do my best, in conjunction with my colleagues, to carry out such works as might be found necessary ta protect property at the least possible cost to the general body of ratepayers. I recognise the importance of the protective works on the river, and am familiar with them, That the rates shall be judiciously expended on necessary works, and only such will be my aim, and have my support on all occasions. About half the rates expended by the Board being raised in the city, their expenditure should therefore he regulated by city representation, mid as the Mayor has no longer a seat on the Board by virtue of his office, the burgesses ought to be alive to returning city representstives, and “ as” such I respectfully solicit your vote and interest.
