RIFLE MATCH.

The rifle match between the Kowai Rifle Olub and the Engineer Volunteers, which has been looked forward to with a considerable amount of interest in shooting circles for some time past, took place on Saturday last on the Oaehmere range, when, as will be seen from the scores appended, the Engineers came off victorious by 24 points. The two teams were very evenly matched, for although the Engineers wore deprived of the services of one or two of their best shots, this would be counterbalanced by the majority of the visiting team being strangers to the range. The scores are as follows : ENOINEBBS.

Mr Hunter, captain, on behalf of the Kowai Bifle Club, desired to thank Captain Warner and the members of his company for their kindness and hospitality, and hoped that they might often meet again in friendly rivalry. Captain Warner said it gave him very much pleasure, in common with the whole of his company, to receive them there that day, and he hoped, with Mr Hunter, that it would not be the last time they would do so. Three cheers having been given for the two teams, the visitors left to return north by train, after having enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
