RICCARTON ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of this Board was held on December 13th, at the effioe, Upper Biooarton. Present—Messrs Hall (chairman), Patterson, Boag.and Nun week. Mr Nun week apologised for Mr Stanley, who was absent through illness. The following correspondence was read—Prom Messrs Harman and Stevens, enclosing fracing of road laid out on the Ilam estate, and asking upon what terms the Board would accept it. It was resolved to reply—" That on the road referred to being dedicated to the public, and formed to the Board’s satisfaction free of cost, it will bo accepted.” Prom Messrs Faoke Bros., stating the terms upon which Mr Acland would allow the ditch to bo filled up fronting his land on tho Fend shown road. The Board having considered the matter, it was decided before taking any further action to ask all the other owners of land fronting the road if they would convey, so that a footpath may be made. Prom Mr T. S. Duncan (in reply), offering to prepare conveyances to the Crown, but elating that tie Crown does not boar any of the costs Prom a ratepayer, calling attention to tho nuisance arising from Mr Horler’a bone crushing establishment at Upper Biccarton. The Board decided to defer the consideration of this question until their next meeting, and the surveyor was directed to examine the locality and report on tho alleged nuisance. Prom Mr Pope, inoluuing a copy of his lease and complaining that the clerk had not put his name on tho rate roll ; also that tho ditch fronting Mr John Carlton’s land was foul. The Board having examined the documents, decided that the roll was prepared according to the Bating Act, and that no blame was attached to tho clerk. Mr Joseph Taylor waited on the Board and requested, on behalf of tho ratepayers in his neighborhood, that a footpath} be made along Pfaokett’s road, to join that reoemly made on Bligh’s road. The Board promised to consider Mr Taylor's application, and with this view the surveyor was directed to examine and report on the cost, <kc., of tho required footpath. As directed at lest meeting, the Surveyor reported on the cost of forming the road on section 9, at the entrance to the Crewe township, and it was resolved to invito tenders
for the work, returnable at next meeting. The consideration of the widening of the stone culvert on the park near Mr Washbourn’s was further deferred for three months. The surveyor’s report, was read, and the following resolutions were carried : “That the ford at Webb’s bridge on the Fendaltown and Wairarapa .7unction road bo made passable for etoob.” “ That the bridge over the cutting at the entrance to the Crowo township bo strengthened wi'h extra girders, and hand rails erected.” “That the road into the gravel pit by Mr Allnutt’e. about three chains, bo formed.” “That Captain Boll’s application for a few loads of gravel from the river bed reserve bo granted.” “ That the wheel ruts on the Sawyers’ Arms road and Gardener’s road be raked in. “ That the annual meeting for the e’jj Uoa of three members to servo on the Beard in place of Messrs Stanley, Nunweok, and Bord, who retire by rotation, bo held on Friday, the 7th January next, at noon.” After passing accounts, the Board adjourned until Friday, the 31st inst., at 6 o’clock.
