PRIZE DISTRIBUTIONS.

LYTTELTON. The annual distribution of prizes took place at this school last night. Dr. J. T. Rouse occupied the chair, and was supported by Dr. Donald, Mr H. B. Webb, and the principal, Mr Dawe. The exercises were conducted in what is known as the infants’ school, that branch of the institution having previously celebrated their annual gathering. In former years the whole “ breaking np ” of the school took place in the main building, but it was fonnd necessary to divide the distribution owing to the increased number of the children. This change may be said to have been an acceptable one for both departments, and it is certainly a vast improvement on the old method. Last evening at the hour appointed for handing out the prizes, the children, some three hundred, were arranged with such good taste in their seats as to present altogether a moat attractive and pleasaing assemblage, one exceedingly creditable to the principal and teachers. A large number of prizes were distributed by the chairman, who congratulated each of the children upon his or her success. He was supplemented by Mr H. B, Webb and Dr. Donald, who both paid a worthy tribute of praise to the school. After the prizes had been distributed, and the children had left, Dr. Rouse, on behalf of the teachers, presented a set of books to Miss Hobbs, expressing in a most feeling manner his gratification on the occasion.
