ST. ALBANS AND MERIVALE.
There was no prize giving at the main school on breaking up yesterday, owing to the fact that the committee have decided to award the prizes on the basis of the inspector’s report. The inspection of the school, as conducted under the new master, io expected to take place in July next. At the side school, however, the usual prizes wore given yesterday. Before distributing the prizes the chairman the Bev, T. Elavell) paid a well-de-served compliment to the teachers of the school for having passed every child in the recent examination, and for the admirable discipline which prevailed throughout the school. After some school songs had been most creditably sung, the chairman presented the following prizes : First class—Girls: 1, Sarah Acourt; 2, Margaret McCroady; 3, Louisa Baker; 4, Amy Chainey. Sewing prize, Eva Ashbolt. Boys : 1, Alfred Bides ;2, Arthur Hunt; 3, David Simpson ; 4, Charlie Stubbs. Second class —Girls : Ellen Minnow. Boys: Charlie Hulls. Third class—Girls : Minnie Bolt. Boys; Daniel Ward. NORTH KOWAI SCHOOLS. The schools, nnder charge of the local committee at Amberloy and North Kowoi, broke up for the Christmas holidays yesterday, and a distribution of prizes (funds for which had been collected by the chairman) took place in the afternoon, a handsome collection of books being given away. The following is the prize list: — MAIN SCHOOL. Standard IV—lst, J. Milner; 2nd, Jane McNaught. Standard lll—lst, Charles Lewton; 2nd, A. Dalziel; 3rd, George Holmes. Standard ll—lst, C. Milner; 2nd, Isabella Bailey ; 3rd, E. Hodgkinson. Standard I—lst, F. Kutherford; 2nd, C. Lawrence. SIDE SCHOOL. Standard lll—lst, M. Stanton and F. Coleman, equal. Standard ll—lst, J. Eadler; 2nd, M. Coleman ; 3rd, S. Coleman. Standard I—lst, J. Stanton. In addition to the foregoing, prizes were awarded to a number of the very young pupils. Two epecial prizes given to the girl and boy who read and answered questions best, by Mr R. MoAdam, were awarded to J. McNaught and J. Milner respectively.
