Yesterday morning the handsome little coasting steamer Akaroa resumed her regular trade between this port and Pigeon Bay. During her lay up, a number of improvements have been effected with a view to adapting her more compUtely for the Akaroa trade, and she may now fairly be said to be a better boat for that trade than she ever was. The fore cabin has_ been done away with, and the space converted into a fore hold. In addition to the hold room thus gained for carrying wool or other cargo during the busier season, an almost greater advantage has been gained in the increased deck room accommodation. The comfort of the passengers down aft—never at any time objectionable—-has received attention, and the overhaul which the vessel has received has certainly renewed her externally and internally to an extent which justifies the statement that she is equal to new.
