ASHLEY ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Thursday, December 2nd. Present —Messrs Hodgson (chairmen), Croft, Cunningham, Dick and Brown. The following correspondence was read : —From Kowai Road Board, re Boundary road. From Messrs Vaughan and Cordner, with reference to Mr Hatcher’s contract, Kuku Pass. From Mr John Casserley, re his contract, Kuku Pass, Clerk ordered to write Mr Casserley that contract would have to be finished according to specification. From Mr M. Moylun, asking the Board to grant him some money for work done on Casserley’a contract. Clerk ordered to write Mr Moylun that this Beard have no funds belonging to John Casserley at their disposal. Mr Nioholls waited on the Board, re deviation of road through his property. The Board acceded to the request of Mr Nioholls, and ordered tho work to be done. Mr D. Brock saw the Board about extra work required to be done at bridge, near Mr Cunningham’s. The Board authorised Mr Brock to do the work, according to sketch shown by him. The clerk was ordered to have drain widened at same bridge. Mr Tod waited on the Board, asking for road to be formed to his land. Mr Tod was informed the work would be attended to. A deputation waited on the Board and stated that they had been employed on Mr Hatcher’s contract, Kuku Pass, and as a considerable amount of money was still due to them, they respectfully asked the Board if they could do anything for them. After some consideration the Board suggested that a compromise might be made between Mr Vaughan and the men, which was agreed to by both parties. Mr Bassett saw the Board abont claim for extra work on his contract at Glontui. The Board decided that they could not entertain the claim. Mr Mcßarron waited on the Board about landslip on his contract, Kuku Pass. Clerk to report, Mr Brady, re Grey cutting, asking for compensation for extra work, owing to alteration of line. Granted £ll sa. The clerk’s report on Ashley Gorge cutting was considered. Mr White interviewed the Board in reference to tho same. After a long discussion the Board decided that the cutting be not less than 12ft. wide in any part. It was resolved that the Ashley Bead Board meet the Kowai Boad Board at Ashley on Tuesday, 14th inst., at 10 a.m., to endeavor to settle matters connected with the Boundary road. Clerk directed to write to the Kowai Board to that effect. Mr Brown asked to have flood gates put np at Mount Thomas Creek. Granted. Mr Thompson was granted leave of absence for another month. Accounts to the amount of £920 7s 2d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
