McQuinn, for being drunk and violent to the oonstable who arrested him, was fined 10s. Vagrancy.—F. W. Oldman, a supposed imbecile, was remanded till the 7th for fourths r medical examination. TJttbsixq a Vaiubx,esß Cheqph.—John Solomon Fohib, a young Maori, who had been remanded on the 30th nit. for the production of further evidence, was again brought up. The case against him was that he had obtained 25s from R. Wallace, of the Criterion Hotel, by a cheque, whiob, on being presented at the bank, was marked *' no account." His defence on tbe former hearing of the ease tu that he had money due him at Waimate, which he expected to be placed to his oredit at the Bank here. The police stated that inquiries had proved that statement to be without foundation in faot; and that aoouscd received from bis relations the character of a *' thorough young vagabond." He was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. Assaults.—Edwin Hopper, who, in a fight whioh originated in a dispute over some work in which they were engaged, appears to have beaten severely John Kirkpatnck, was fined 20s and costs, with solicitor's fee, £2 2s. Cross summonses between George Mapston and Amelia Ann Bashford, the first for knocking the latter down in the gutter and throwing dirty water over her, and the last for breaking a .pane of glass belonging to the former, was decided by Mapston being fined 10s. The case against Bashford was dismissed. MibgbUiAheots.—John Jackson, charged with having bis horse and cab unattended, proved that he had left the vehicle in the care of another cabman. The case was dismissed. Thos. Bailey, for getting out of a railway carriage while the train was in motion, was fined 20s.' Tbe following persons, having children in Burnham Industrial School, to whose support they had neglected to contribute, were ordered to pay as follows :—John Corkin, for one boy, 5s per week ; Richard Goldney, for three boys, 7s 6i per week ; Henry Lewis, for two boys, 10j per week ; Montague Dodd, for one boy, 2s 6d per week; -G-eorgina Smith, for one girl, 5s ; Jas. Smith, for two girls, 5s per week. M. Thomas and H. Trenbath were eaoh fined Pa and costs for cattle to wander.
