ROAD BOARDS.

AVON. The Board met on November 29th. Pre-sent—Me-srs Plesher, Bligb. Philpott and Moor. In the absence of the chairman, Mr Flesher was voted to the choir. The reports of the surveyor and foreman of works were read and considered. A deputation waited upon the Board relative to the state of the road at the Sandhills, Waimakaiiri. The surveyor was instructed to inspect the road and arrange to have the work dons. The surveyor was instructed to see the member representing the Avon district, and request him to visit one or two roads upon which the Drainage Board has been working. The clerk was instructed to write to Mr Wild for amount guaranteed by him towards purchase of recreation ground. A letter was received from Board of Health, enclosing report upon drainage of PapanuL The clerk was instructed to reply that the Board regrets that the residents in Papanui have failed to conform to the conditions required by the Board, and would point oufe that many other parts of the district more require the work ; but at present the Board bave no funds for the purpose. The surveyor was instructed to have the footpath from the road leading to the saleyards to the Sawyers’ Arms road curbed. Letters were received from Mr J. P. O’Oallaghan and Mr A. W. Money. The clerk was instructed to reply. Letter wae received from the Drainage Board, enclosing list of drains in the district, requesting that the Board would be good enough to suggest what creeks and drains should be omitted from the list. The clerk was instructed to reply that this Board cannot advise the Drainage Board relative to the omission of creeks and drains from the list. A letter was received from the chairman Papanni school committee. The clerk was instructed to reply. Accounts to the amount of £363 12s 3d were passed and ordered to be paid. The Board then adjonrned.
