COMMERCIAL.
The Customs duties collected at Chrißtohurch on Saturday, November 27th, were as follows :—Spirits, i! 101 6s 4d ; wine, .£l3 ; tea, .£ll 133 4d ; goods »by weight, £2 2s 6d; ad valorem, y£s 5s ; total, £133 7a 2d. AUCTIONEER'S REPORT. Ma T. Pkeece reports no follows :'—There was a large attendance of farmers at his saleyards, Lichfield street, on Satnrday, and prices for the lots submitted were, on the whole, satisfactory to vendors. Several useful horses were offered and a few changed owners, but the majority were passed, not reaching owners' values. 40 head of cattle were yarded, principally calves and young stock. Dairy cows are very dull of sale ; £5 to .£8 is about the average value for young springers and cows in profit of fair quality. Calves, a few days old, 10.< to 17s each ; do, a few weeks old, 20s to 30s each. Pigs, 175 yarded. Suckers, stores, and small porkers commanded high figures, and the supply is not nearly equal to the demand ; small porkers. 25s to 30s each ; larger do, 35s to 45s each. Poultry are still scarce, consequently there ,i 3 reidy sale at high rates for birds in condition ♦fit for the table.
