CHBISTOHUBCH. Tuesday, Novbmbeb 30. [Before B. Hewlings, E. Westenra, G. L. Lee, and J. Marshman, Esqs , J.P. 's] Dbunkbitbss.—John Donughey, who, when arrested, used very obscene hnguage, and afterwards, when looked up at Leeston, smashed tha furniture of the cell, pleaded guilty, and was fined 20s, and ordered to pay 23a, value of property destroyed, and 3s trap hire. James Halls, out on bail, did not answer to his name; and he was ordered to show cause why his bail should not be estreated. Passing A Valueiess Cb.eq.ce.— John Solomon Pohio, a young Maori, was charged with obtaining £1 5a from Eobert Wallace, of the Criterion Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque, which he had drawn in his own name on the Kational Bank at Ohristchurch on November 26th. On presenting the cheque it was found that prisoner had no account at the Bank. Prisoner, who appeared to be intelligent, speaking excellent English, made a statement to the effect that he had money due him at Waimate, and he expected a remittance from that place to be at his credit at the Bank here. The case was adjourned till Monday next, to allow of inquiries being made at Waimate, bail being accepted, himself in £2O, and two sureties in £lO each. Attempted Suicide. Alice Gny was brought up charged with attempting to commit suicide. F. Valpy deposed to pulling witness out of the Avon at about one o'clock this morning. Eliza Blackmore stated that prisoner left her house at about the time named, saying that she was going to drown herself. Prisoner said she knew nothing about it, as she was drunk. She was dismissed with a caution. Assault.—William Duke, wanted for m violent assault on Maria Midgley, did not appear to the summons, and a warrant was ordered to issue for his apprehension.
