Te Anau at the Bluff.] , LONDON, November 16, Mr Bright, speaking at Birmingham, proposed that the Government should purchase the waste lands in Ireland for the distribution amongst evicted tenants. November 17. General Sir F. S. Roberts, who commanded the British army whioh obtained such a signal victory over Ayoub Khan, near Oaudahar, has arrived in England. He met with an enthusiastic reception on landing at Dover. The French Senate has passed a vote of confidence in the Ferry Ministry by a majority of six. An asylum for the insane at Minnesota has been destroyed by fire. Many of the inmates were burned to death. November 19. Fresh massacres have boon committed by the Khurds in Persia. November 30. The divisions in the British Cabinet are not regarded as likely to cause a break up of the Government. Bather than suspend the Habeas Corpus Act in Ireland, the Government will call Parliament together at an earlier date than usual. Earl Spencer supports Mr Bright’s Waste Lands Scheme. The Marquis of Salisbury charges the Government with showing sympathy with the promoters of disorder in Ireland. He expresses his surprise that the Whig Ministers should be content to bo dragged wherever the wild theorists of the Birmingham school desire. Two more clergymen of the Church of England have been imprisoned for ritualistic practices and for disobeying the order of the Ecclesiastical Court. November 22. The German press shows some soreness on account of the complaints from the German exhibitors at the Melbourne International Exhibition, that the beat positions have been assigned to others. The race whioh took place on the Thames on Saturday was the best of the series that has been rowed for the Hop Bitters Company’s prize. The public consider that Laycock has a better chance against Hanlan than Triokett had.
