MAGISTRATES' COURTS.

OHBISTOHUROH. Satubday, Novbmbkb 27. [Before J. E. Parker and F. de C. Malet, Egqg., J.P.'b.] Dbuhkennbss.—ln the case of John Quiu, arrested on Friday night for this offence, the police informed the Bench that, complaining of a pain in the hip, the result of an old injury, he had been examined by a surgeon, on whose recommendation he had been sent to the hospital. A remand was granted for one week. Labohnv.— Annie Young, a girl about seventeen, pleaded guilty to a charge of this nature. She had been a domestic servant in the employment of Mr C. Davie, and had appropriated one workbox, one writing-desk, one inkstand, one handkerchief, one window blind, one email trunk, one piece of white lace, and five sheets, the value of the whole being stated at £A. The articles had been recovered. Mrs O. Davie, called by the police, said accused had been a little over a month in her service. Witness had taken such an aversion to her, and she was so disturbed in consequence of what had taken plaoe that she could hardly speak. Sergeant Morioe said other persons, in whose service prisoner had been had missed articles, whioh she was suspected of having taken. The Beach said a statement of that kind was not fair. The Bench had nothing to do with suspicions. They had a case before them confessed to by the prisoner, which was quite enough for them. Addressing the prisoner they said she would be dealt with as leniently as possible, and they hoped the result would serve as a warning to her for the rest of her life. Sentenced to thirty days' imprisonment with hard labor, to be kept as free as possible from contact with more hardened criminals.
