The cross of the new tower of the Church of Brkelenz is 81$ metres high, ranking second in height to Cologne, in Rhenish Q-ermany, and thirteenth among European edifices. Self-sharpening horseshoes are the latest American novelty. They are made by the simple expedient of rolling a steel plate in the centre of the iron from which the shoe is made, so that the calks of the shoo have a hard steel centre, and as the soft iron wears away by use the sharp steel is left to prevent slipping.
