CRICKET.

A match between the Kaiapoi and Sefton Olubs was played on the ground of the latter, at Balcairn, on Saturday last, and was won by Sefton with ten wiokets to spare. Messrs Goodeve and Merrin for the visitors, and Messrs Morgan and White for the local team, were the most successful bowlers. The following did good work with the bat: —Messrs Wright, Dixon, and Hayman, visitors ; Messrs White, Ensor, and Baird, locals. The return match between the Ellesmere and Leeston Olubs was played on the Southbridge ground on Saturday last. The match requires no comments, as the bowling and fielding of the Ellesmere men were simply far and away too good for their opponents. The scores were:—Leeston, first innings 19, sacond 25 ; Ellesmere, first innings 91 ; the Ellesmere team winning by one innings and 47 runs. A numerously attended meeting of the Bakers' Cricket Club was held at the Market Hotel lost evening at eight o'clook, Mr P. Taylor in the chair. Aocountß to the amount of £7 were passed for payment,, and arrangements were made for the seleotion of prizes to be presented for the best averages in bowling and hotting during the ensuing season. In addition to this business, a number of matters pertaining to the operations of the elub in the past were duly considered and satisfactorily disposed of, after which the meeting adjourned, after a vote of thanks to the chair. The matoh between an eleven chosen from suburban cricket clubs and the Mount Herbert Cricket Olub, at Head of the Bay, will not be ployed to-day, owing to the illness of some of Vae former team.
