CANTERBURY CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of the general committee waa held last Friday at the City Hotel, Mr Stevens in the chair. The meeting was called for the purpose of taking into consideration the proposed visit of the Australian Eleven. A letter was read from Mr A. Hallifax, Dunedin, stating that he had been deputed on behalf of Mr G. Alexander to collect particulars as to what sum, if any, would be contributed by the Association for a two or three days’ match
with the Australian Eleven, The letter ashed that, in the event of the question of a lump sum not being entertained, the association would state the percentage of takings that they would retain, and also forward instructions as regards the ground to bo had, and the probable cost. The letter concluded by saying that the writer was not empowered to accept any terms, but would submit any proposal to the eleven by the outgoing mail. After a short discussion the following resolution was agreed to unanimously—“ That the Australian Eleven be offered one-half the gross proceeds of the sale of booth sites and half the money received at the gates ; any expenses of advertising the match to be borne equally by the eleven and the association; the eleven to pay their own expenses during their stay in Christchurch.” After the transaction of some formal business the committee adjourned.
