Mr Hebden stated that be should be unable to take so active a part in the sports this year as he did last, owing to ill-health, but he desired to remain on the committee. He would move —“ That the sports be held as usual, on the Hogley Park ground, on the 16th December, and that a prize list be offered similar so far as possible to that given last year." Mr Crooks seconded the motion.
Mr Alport said that ho was glad to find that it was not intended to give np these sports. He thought it would be a good thing if they could get the control of the Park handed over to them for a week say, so that they might exercise their authority. He hoped that the Board having the control of the Park would be able to see their way clear to give the association some power. The motion was then put and agreed to. A letter was read from the Pioneer Bicycle Club, asking that the committee would include a bicycle race in the programme, competitors to start mounted. It was resolved that the secretary communicate with the Government, asking them to proclaim the 16th December as a public holiday, and also with the Domain Board and Mr Elder to obtain the use of the ground. Messrs. Andrews, Hobbs, and Wachsmann were appointed as a committee to revise the programme, to bring up a report at next meeting. The ground committee appointed were Messrs. Walkden, Andrews, Crooks, and B. O. Bishop. Mr H. E. Alport thought that the members of the City Council were members of the committee ex officio. Mr Walkden said that it was only the Mayor. Mr H. Atkinson was proposed as a member of the Popular Sports committee. Mr Crooks said that ho thought if they altered the hour of meeting of the committee, they would have a larger number of good workers come forward. The meeting then adjourned till Tuesday next, at 4 p.m.
