PUBLIC MEETING AT BROOKSIDE.

A public meeting was held intheechoolhouse, Brookside, on Monday evening, for the purppse of taking into consideration the necessity of forming a Sparrow Club. Present— Messrs Ohas. Lewis (in the ohair), J. Cunningham, O. Withell, B. Withell, I. Mawson, J. Baldwin, H. Lean, G-. Watson, T. Brookes. The chairman informed the meeting that poisoning having proved far too expen sire a way of destruction, he had called (ho present meeting together with the objeot of forming a sparrow club, to pay so much per dozen for eggs and heada, which he felt sure would prove a more efficacious mode of extermination. Mr Brooks asked the ohairman to explain the modus operandi of the proposed club. The chairman stated that the first thing to do was to appoint a committtee and deoide on subscription, the further operations to be left in theirjhands. On the motion of Mr Cunningham, seconded by Mr B. Withell, the following gentlemen were cleoted a committee, with power to add to their number—Messrs Ohas. Lewis (treasurer), J. Cunningham, 0. Withell, E. Withell, T. Brooks, A. Buckley, I. Mawson, H. Lean, W. Watson, and J. Baldwin (secretary.) It was resolved that the entrance fee be fixed at 2s 6d, and that a further fee of so much per ■ere be afterwards imposed. Mr Baldwin was authorised to collect eggs, &0., from the boys. A vote of thanks was accorded to the chairman, and the meeting adjourned for a fortnight.
