ACCIDENTS.
A young mac named Robert Mileom, wellknown in Port, met with a serious accident yesterday while out with his cart. 'He had been to a customer’s bouse, beyond the Orphanage, and was taking the chain off the cart-wheel, when the horse made a bolt, knocking the unfortunate young fellow down, the wheel passing over his leg. The horse made for the town, but was stopped by some of the prisoners at work near the Orphanage, the overseer, Mr Jones, having seen the horse come round the point. Mr Jones then went to look for Mileom, and found him lying in the road ; he picked him up, and two of the Maori prisoners carried him home, when Dr. Rome was sent for. The doctor found that young Milsom had sustained a comminuted fracture of the leg, the bone being broken in two places, about three inches apart. The bones were set and the sufferer was going on nicely last night. Mr L. O. Williams, of Amberley, received a blow in the eye whilst playing cricket at Balcairn, on Saturday, which, unfortunately, his damaged his sight. On the advice of Dr. Morris, Dr. Wilkins, of this city, has been consulted, and Mr Williams is now under the care of those two gentlemen. A man named Robert Clayton met with a serious accident last Monday evening at Ashburton. Ha was engaged in putting a chaffcutter into a dray, when the horse moved on, and the machine fell on him, breaking one of his ribs, and otherwise injuring him. He was attended by Dr. Boss, and is now getting on as well as could be expected. A young fellow named Wm. Wolfenden was admitted to the Hospital on Monday, suffering from a fractured leg and a dislocated shoulder, the which injuries he sustained by a fall from a horse at Springfield. He was at first attended by Dr. Meadows, and sent by him to the Hospital.
