KOWAI ROAD BOARD.

Tfco usual monthly meeting ot the Kowai Head Board was held at the Road Board offiae, Balcairn, on Friday, sth November. Present: Messrs O. Ensor (chairman), McDonald, Coleman, Vaughan, and Mathers. A deputation, consisting of Messrs Greig, Hadler, Bristow, Wilson, and S: .nton, waited on the Board on behalf of tne Dock Creek committee. Messrs Bristow and Stanton expressed their willingness to sign an agreement, allowing the diversion of the creek as laid out through their properties. Messrs Bristow, Stanton, and Hadler agreed to allow the stuff to be thrown out of the creek on to their land, they to be allowed to utilise it in filling up hollows. The surveyor was instructed to write to Mr D. Brown on the same subject. On Mr Stanton’s asking to be supplied with a bridge over the creek, near his stable, the Board suggested that the committee might arrange this matter, as the Board considered that granting such a request on their parts would probably indues other similar applications. After a consultation, the committee stated that they would find the requisite timber. A cheque tor £35 2s was here handed in as the committee’s contribution to the work, for ■which Mr 0. Gartner’s tender was accepted. Brodic’a road.—Along discussion took place on tenders for this road being opened. It was stated that contractors who were tendering would have to pay a long price for the metal. It was ultimately resolved to accept a tender for metalling as far ns Mr Brodio's gate. In the event of Mr Brodie’s providing the metal, the rest of the road to bo metalled with ten cubic yards to thd chain. Duffel’s read—lt was resolved that not more than throe chains of this road be done, and this was notified to the lowest tenderer. Mr L. TosswUl saw the Board relative to a cutting into the Waipara on tfco Railway Bseorve road. The Board expressed themselves as anxious to eee the Waipara Road Board open this read through to the Weka Pass Creek, and would do anything in their power to further this end. Mr Merchant applied for pipes to put in drain opposite his premises, North road, Leithfield. Granted. Mr Toohoy wished the Board to assist him in protecting his property on north bank of Kowai. The surveyor was instructed to report. Mr .T. Ashworth, jun., interviewed the Board relative to a claim for a horse that had died from injuries received from getting into a hole on the Terraco road. The Board decided that some of the members would see the place, and let Mr Ashworth tnow their decision. The Board agreed to hand Mr Ashworth a cheque for the land purchased for the road to the beach on receipt of a letter from their solicitors. The surveyor was ins'ructed to look to the culverts complained of on Duff’s road. Mr A. Bailey saw the Board relative to his contract ea Gillespie’s rood. The Board refused to make any further payments until the completion of the work. An application from Mr D. Robertson, for an extension of time for Orozier’s bridge contract was granted. A letter from Mr F. Courage relative to drains in the vicinity of Brown’s bridge, was read. The Board decided to consider the matter at a special meeting to bo held at Ambsrloy on Monday, the 15th inst. The surveyor was requested to report on a culvert on Stringer’s road at next (special) meeting, and to call for tenders for the monthly meeting. Pormiaoion was granted to Messrs Ocianery and Fawcett to out flax off the reads, the price to be 2s fid per ton. Holdaworth’s road, consideration deferred. HadXer’fl road, decided to do nothing to this road. Auckland street, Ashley, necessary work to bo done, cost not to ©xo ed £5. vised having paid into the Bank the aum of I £6 14i 101 received during past month.] Messrs O. E. and R. A. Forbes wrote advising having sent first sheet of new district map. A complaint from a tenant of a reserve at Siony Creek was road. The surveyor was instructed to see that no unnecessary violence had been used, lessees to understand that reasonable access must be given to contractors requiring shingle.
