Sir George and The Governor were quickest away, Mario Antoinette getting off badly and running as usual unkindly was never in the hunt. When the journey was half run the cherry jacket of The Governor was still seen in the race, but Atlantic and Hilda now joined issue, and The Governor, tiring a bit towards the finish, the other two raced together almost to the very end. Hilda however stayed the longest, and well ridden by young Hawkins won a good race by half a length. The result was a great surprise to the general public, but it is understood that the owner and his friends threw in for a good stake. This brought to a conclusion the most successful meeting, taken as a whole, ever hold on the metropolitan course.
