MESSRS. H. MATSON’S SHOW SALE.
This highly important sale of pure-bred Shorthorn cattle was held at Tattersall’a this day. The forum was well filled by the stock owners of Oantenbury “and the other provinces of New Zealand. Mr John T. Matson weilded the hammer with his usual ability, and as lot after lot passed before him, be descanted on its merits in glowing terms suitable to the occasion. The Brunswick Park Shorthorns, at present in quarantine, were duly submitted. The first of which, Alvios Hero, was passed in at 290 guineas ; the next. Second Summerton’s Earl of Brunswick, fell to the bid of John Deans, Esq., of Riocarton, tor the sum of 400 guineas. Messrs Robertson Bros.’ Colao shorthorns were mognificent animals, and elicited murmurs of satisfaction as the passed before the rostrum —the first of which, Oxford Duke of Cambridge 2nd, was secured by Mr John Grigg for the sum of 300 guineas. The next of this lot was bought by Mr Jackson, of Wanganui, for 180 guineas. The celebrated bull Esau, from Mr John Grigg’s well known herd, was also secured by that gentleman for the sum of 105 guineas. The prizetaker at the late show, Mr Dudley’s Invincible let, was also secured by Mr Jackson at 70 guineas. The sale was proceeding when we went to press.
