Sir Charles Lyell says, " On my visit to America I was amazed at the clean appearance of the buildings in the great Atlantic cities, arising entirely from the use of the smokeless anthracite coal, leaving no doubt that, with American appliances for burning it, this coal is the most effective coal known."
