NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
The annual prize firing will be held by the Association at Brightwater, near Nelson, on Monday, 28th February, 1881, and following days. Particulars of the various matches have already been published in our columns. There are nineteen matches in all. The civilian matches are struck out altogether, also the Cavalry tournament. In place of these are the Rifle Company’s challenge match, the first prize being the possession of the cup for one year and £25 in money ; also, the Rifle Company’s trophy match. Similar matches are introduced for carbines. Some slight alterations and additions to regulations seem to have been made. Entrance fees will be returned to those who are prevented from being present at the meeting, and to those who attend tho meeting but are incapacitated from illness or accident. The complete programme is now issued and is very creditably got up, all the rules and regulations being embodied therein, and blank leaves inserted for firing and other notes. Copies may be obtained, also of the Annual Report for 1880, from Lieutenant Appleby, the local honorary secretary of the Association. A meeting of those interested will be held at the Commercial Hotel on Monday, the 22nd instant, to elect a local committee for the ensuing year.
