BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION.
The weekly meeting of the above was held yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Tho Mayor read the caretaker’s report, which stated that the late concert at Tattersall’s realised £26 14s 4d. Mr James Goss had presented his account for the benefit of the association. The week’s relief was —3 bags coal, 15 bags potatoes, and 501 b ilonr. Fifteen applicants have been relieved during the week, four of which were first applications, Mr Ollivier moved, and it was resolved—“ That the thanks of the committee be given to the ladies and gentlemen who took part in tho concert, and also to Messrs Matson and Co. for the use of Tattersall’s.” Several accounts, amounting to £36 7s Bd, were passed for payment. On the motion of his Worship the Mayor, it was agreed—“ That the hearty thanks of the association are due and are hereby given to Mr John Ollivier for his indefatigable exertions, to which the success of tho late concert is mainly due.” Also—“ That a vote of thanks be accorded to Mr Goss for his assistance to tho association, and for his kindness in remitting the account.” It was stated that a considerable stock of potatoes still remained in hand, and tho caretaker was instructed to supply them liberally to any applicant. This being all tho business the committee adjourned.
