Bridget Hancock, who appeared to he suffering from excessive drinking, was remanded tin Thursday. Nora Halligan, on a similar •barge, was dismissed with a caution. Laboeny. —Mary Brown, alias Edwards, a washerwoman, was charged with converting to her own use certain articles the property ot S. Stewart, valued at £5 7s 6d, entrusted to her for washing. She pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment witn Bard labor. . Foeqhby and Uttbbing.—W. H. Hewi•on, on remand, was again brought up. Uri•oner had forged the name of A. M. Clark to a cheque oa the Bank of New Zealand for £b. He handed it to Mr Hiorns to be cashed. It was sent to the bank and the forgery was detected. The principal evidence in the case had been taken last Friday. Mr Clark, manager of St. Helen’s station, Amun, now attended, and deposed that the to the cheque had not been written by him. Prisoner, who had nothing to say, was committed for trial at the next sessions of the Sui jremo Court at Christchurch. Disobeying an Obdeb of Cottet. —Neil MoPhee, who has been irregular in his payments for the maintenance of his wife and family, was ordered to pay up by next Monday or be summarily dealt with. The case was then remanded till Monday.
