UNITED CLUB V. MIDLAND CLUB. This match was continued on Saturday last, but it cannot be said to. have been at all satisfactory. The United concluded their innings, the total reaohing 287, Mr Wilding being not out for 24, having added 9 to his previous score by two fine hits for 5 and 4, In trying to run 5 for the last hit, Beswick was run out. The Midland had now 217 to get to save the innings defeat. The first two batsmen, Messrs Watson and Fowke, played steadily, but at 38 the former was bowled by a grand ball from Ashby. After this the other wickets fell fast. When seven wickets had fallen for 59, the United were told, after waiting Borne time in the field, that the other players were absent. The match, therefore, ended in favor of the United by an innings and 158 runs. The following is the score: — UNITED ci/db. First Innings. J. Hartland, o White, b Fuller 14 W, P. Reeves, b W. 0.C.0. v OOURTENAY 0.0.

This match was played on Saturday last on the ground of the former club, and resulted in an easy win for the home team. The 0.0.0. went in first, and kept the wickets up most of the afternoon, scoring 136. Yeats was the highest scorer with 37, put together in fine style. Oaygill, Anson, and Wagstaff came next with 19, 16, and 12 respectively. The play of the Oourtenay team was not up to the standard of former years, either in bowling or fielding, though Simpson's bowling was for the most part straight and good. The bowlers had a great deal to contend with in the badness of the pitch, the wicket supposed to be prepared by the Association being simply exeorable, and it was a matter of surprise that no one was seriously injured during the match. Simpson got eight of the wickets at the expense of 57 runs. None of the Oourtenay men made much of a stand, Wheatley and Wagetaff being dead on tho wicket, and runs were few and far between. Their innings closed shortly before six o'clock for the small total of 33 runs. Wheatley got six wickets for 15 runs and Wagstaff four for 12 runs. Following are the scores : c.c.c.
