CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.
A special meeting of the above was held at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Present—Messrs H. P. Lance (in the chair), G. G. Stead, J. Campbell, E. G. Griffith, C. H. Williams, G. P. Williams, 8. Garforth, A. O. Wilson, W. H. Wilson, W. H. Wynn Williams, F. E. A. Graham, J. B. Gresson, A. Weßtenra, Frankish, W. Reeves, T. D. Acland, A. Scott, Kimbell, Millet, Lee, P. Cunningham, Peacock, A. Carrick.
Messrs Townend, Spaceman, Perceval, Henderson, D. Melvillo, and J. Gould were elected on the ballot.
The meeting resolved itself into committee to consider tenders received for the new stand.
A letter was read from the D.J.C., stating that the disqualification had been removed from Donald McDonald and the mare Blue Bell.
Hon. J. T. Peaoock thought that eomo evidonoe should bo Bent forward aa to why the disqualification was removed, aB no reasons had been given by the Dunedin Jookey Club. The Chairman explained that disqualifications on being received by the O.J.C. must oome through a metropolitan club. After some further discussion, it was resolved to endorse the action of the D.J.C. Mr Reeves, in moving the resolution endorsing tho removal, stated that the case, no doubt, had been fully enquired into by the Dunedin Jockey Club, and that they could not in courtesy refuse to give effeot thereto. Letters were read from Mr W. Perceval, secretary of tho Auckland Racing Club, stating that they were prepared to contribute witn the other leading olubs of New Zealand to the extent of £IOO per annum for a publio handicapper. The other letter stated the willingness of the Auckland Racing Club to join in the conference of delegates from racing clubs in Ohristchurch in November on the appointment of a public handicapper and other subjects. A letter was read from Mr F. Egan, win had guaranteed to collect £25 towards the funds of the races, stating that, as he had had to leave for Melbourne, he should be unabls to carry out hia promise. Mr Stead said that their booths had sold £3OO worse than last year, and he trusted now that some one would come forward and supply Mr Egan's place as guaranteeing to collect £25.
Mr Acland, of Acland and Campbell, on behalf of his firm, guaranteed to oollect £25. The meeting then proceeded to oonsider the new rules proposed for the club, and several minor alterations were made. One important alteration was made, on tho motion of Dr. Erankish, by which the clerks of the course and scales, tho starter and handioapper were placed on the committeo ex officio and the quorum raised to five. The olub rules were then adopted on the motion of Mr Lance, and fixed to come into force on January Ist. The racing rules were also passed as a whole and fixed to come into force on January Ist. The meeting then adjourned.
