A CRICKETING FEAT.

Dr. W. Q. Grace, the celebrated cricketer (the “ Home News ” says), performed a brilliant feat at cricket last week in the match Gloucestershire v Surrey. Gloucestershire required fifty-two runs to win, and as they bad an innings in hand, there was no doubt of their ability to get the runs, provided there was sufficient time. It was the last day of the match, and but forty-three minutes remained for play. Dr. W. Q. Grace and Mr Gilbert went in, and hit at such an amazing pace, that in twenty-six minutes tho 52 runs were obtained, Gloucestershire winning by ten wickets with more than a quarter of an hour in hand. Mr Grace has done brilliant things at cricket without number, but never in his life did he work harder to win that on this occasion. Dr. W. G. Grace performed a somewhat similar feat a few days before. The last Yorkshire wicket went down at 190, and Gloucestershire had 84 runs to get in an hour and a half. However, Dr. W. G. Grace was more than equal to the occasion. Very rarely in recent years has he pluyed a finer or more brilliant innings. Feate’s bowling he treated with respect, but the others he hit all over the field with the vigour and freedom of his best days. In an hour and a quarter he scored 57 out of the 77 made from the bat, and so won the match against time for Gloucestershire by six wickets.
