[reutee’s telegeams.] MELBOURNE, October 21. The CupMata is now being backed at 10 to 1 for the Cap, having had a splendid gallop to-day. “ Augur,” in his Sporting Notes, has selected Progress and Mata for the Cup.
MELBOURNE, October 22. Postal Matters and Border DutiesThe proposed conference on postal matters has fallen through, the various colonies invited to join in the same having declined the proposal. It is probable, however, that a conference of Australian'colonies will be held on the subject of border duties.
