Thb Jubv List.— ln the course of the nisi prins sitting yesterday Mr J, O. Boys, who had been summoned on the special jury in the case of Young v Hill, brought under the notice of his Honor the fast there were a number of gentlemen in Christchurch whose names were altogether omitted from the jury list, whilst gentlemen in the country were called upon to serve very frequently indeed. His Honor said that there was no doubt great hardship in the matter, but he did not see how it could be remedied. Wnilst engaged on the work of the Commission for codifying the statutes, he, with his brother Commissioners, had taken great pains to see how the Jury Act could be amended. He thought the beat way would be for the sheriff to communicate with the Oommissoner of Police. The fact was that the duty cast upon the police by the law with respect to the jury list had been discharged very unsatisfactorily, and that means must be taken to remedy it or the summary powers of the law brought into force. He trusted the sheriff would take some steps to remedy the hardship pointed out to the Court by Mr Boys.
