The Expulsion of Religious OrdersIn consequence of the action which is being taken by the French Government to carry out the March decrees and complete the expulsion of members of all unauthorised religious orders residing in France, the leaders of the Carmelites have determined to contest at law the legality of the action of the Government in ordering their expulsion, and necessary proceedings have been commenced. LONDON, October 19. English Markets. New Zealand securities are to-day quoted as follows, ex September dividends: —Five Per Cent. 10.40 Loan, 99; Five Per Cent. 1889 Loan, 100£ ; Four and a-Half Per Cent. 1879-1905 Loan, 93£. CONSTANTINOPLE, October 20, The Turkish QuestionNews has been received that a hitch has occurred in the negotiations which were opened at Cat tinge between the delegates of the Powers and Turkey for the cession of Dulcigno. The Turkish delegates demand that a status quo shall bo maintained as regards the territory east of Scutari, which is required to be ceded to Montenegro. In consequence of this action the sincerity of the Porte’s offer to arrange the settlement of the Montenegrin difficulty is generally doubted.
