WEST COAST RAILWAY.

The adjourned meeting of those interested in a railway to the West Coast was held at Messrs R. Wilkin and Co.'b stores yesterday. The attendance was again limited. On the motion of Mr B. Wilkin, Mr Wynn Williams took the chair.

The Chairman said he bad telegraphed to the Hon. Mr Rolleston, asking for information on the subject of the line, and he had replied that he would send some papers by the first steamer, which would not reach them till after the meeting. MrJWilkin said that the meeting had been adjourned to get Mr Foy's report, but they had been unable to obtain this report. Mr Wiokes said that he thought they should at once get out the surveyors, and let them give them a report. The cost was but small, and he thought that when they could get the report for a small sum of £IOO, they should not hesitate for one moment.

Mr Wilkin said he should only be too willing to join in suoh an enterprise at once, provided he had an idea of the cost of the preliminary survey. The Chairman said that the routs via the Cannibal Gorge had been used for some years for cattle. After some discussion,

Mr R. Wilkin moved—" That subscription lists be at once opened, and that so soon as the necessary amount is subscribed the two engineers, Messrs Thornton and Brown, be requested to proceed at once to make the flying survey, also to report upon the probable amount of forest country, amount of pastoral and quartz and mineral country, together with the engineering difficulties, and probable cost of the line." Mr Bethell seconded the motion, which was carried. _ ' A list was then opened for the receipt of subscriptions. Mr Bethell moved—" That Messrs R. Wilkin and Co. act as treasurers to the fund."

Mr Anderson seconded the motion, which was agreed to. It was agreed that the list should lie for signature at various places in the city. The meeting then adjourned for a week.
