THE MAYORAL ELECTION.
To the Jzditor of the Globe. Sib, —I still hold to my before expressed opinion in spite of your correspondent "Elector;" but as I object to anything that is mean or cowardly, I will not fight in the dark ; so if " Eleotor" will have the manliness and oourage to declare his name, I will be quite ready to show that the ignorance and impertinence complained of is all on his part. Yours, &a, W. MILL. Montreal street South, Ootober 19th, 1880. The following letters appear in this morning's issue of the "Press " : MONEY. TO THK BDITOB OP THB PBESS. Bib, —Can you inform me how ii is that money commands so much higher interest in New Zealand than it does in Australia ? As can be seen by advertisements in Sydney and Melbourne papers, it is freely offered at 6 per cent., whilst here the lowest is 8 to 10 per cent. As it is mostly English capital that is invested here, and the interest finds its way home, it comes rather hard on the industrious farmer, who is striving to clear his property, to have to pay such high rates for any money whioh he may raise on his land. Hoping soon to see it down to 6 per cent., Yours, &0., J. W.
