ST. BARNABAS CHURCH, WOODEND.
A very successful tea and entertainment took place in the district school on Wednesday last, in aid of the funds of the above churoh. Tables were provided by the Mesdames ©reason, Crossley, Legget, Palmer, Pope, Kirby, Scoon, Rpwe, J. Smyth, W. Smyth, Walker and Rowley. In addition to the tea there was a stall for the Bale of a lot of useful articles made at the ladies' sewing bees, and presided over by Meedames Witte and Horrell, the Misses Watson and Witte, who seemed to do a fair amount of business. The tables having been cleared, an interesting programme of vocal and instrumental music was submitted to the audienoe. Before singing the National Anthem the Hon. H. B. Gresson proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Mertonand the ladies and gentlemen assisting him for their very valuable services that evening, which was carried by acclamation. Mr Merton, in responding, said that it was always a pleasure to him to assist in anything of this sort, and should be most willing to give his services on any future occasions. Votes of thanks were also accorded to the ladies who provided trays, and to the local talent. The entertainment was then brought to a close by singing the National Anthem.
